For the rest of the spring and the whole summer a group ranging from 5 to 20 people would meet up at the fort and have a party. This wasn't just a pile of branches we had this dome like room made from branches lashed together with vines then there was a downword path we called the spiral stair case which led to the back room that had a picnic bench in. Later on in the summer, there was an open side room with some chairs and a table. People would bring hookas and pony kegs. We would find each other in the dark night by using bird calls, like petter pan. Sometimes we would draw strangers from the park to our spot and every time, they were so happy and amazed with our handy work.
Sadly there has to be a end to everything amazing and in the end of the summer the park came and knocked down our precious fort. Since then we have tried building a new fort in the same park, which failed and last summer we kinda just pretended my friends back yard and swiming pool was the third One Rotten Wood Way.
Anyway I would strongly encourage others to try and find a way to make a little speak easy type place for you and your friends to get together all the time and feel like gypsy pirates or 1960s hippies having the best time in your life!!! Seattle is a amazing city that has some of the best parks to have gatherings in. I would say, this spring take a look around and see if you can find a place to build a little hang out at. What if we had ones all over the city? How cool would that be?
