Out With The Old, In With The New

"I made no resolutions
for the New Year.
The habit of making plans,
of criticizing, sanctioning and
molding my life, is too much
of a daily event for me."

Artist Statement:
In 1918 the great influenza pandemic called the "Spanish Flu" brought the world to great danger. In a short amount of time close to 1 million people would lose their lives worldwide from what would later be recognized as the H1N1 or swine flu. To halt the spreading and death toll from rising, a team of scientist and doctors were brought together in hopes of understanding and curing the deadly virus. Researching this event in history pushed us to learn more about the beginning of science, those involved and the experiments and discoveries they uncovered. The advancements of science have diminished man's natural life force and the more we dissect the earth, the faster we severe our connection to it.

Grappling with our new found love for this information, we have created works of the same dissection and discovery between man and animal, man and earth, man and man.

A prophecy has been made!!!

Yes indeed just a few days ago I saw a prophecy born reasuring me that 2010 is going to be a golden year!!! Lots of different cultures around the world have their own prophecys that predict a pleasant future such as a white buffulo born and so on. My prophcy was born through Axl Rose... Axl has been an amazing front man in the past and has also fallen into a darkness of unspeakable fashion choices and even music choices for many years now...still I had hope for him. How could someone once so amazing be lost forever? My prayers have been anwsered Axl Rose no longer has corn rows!!!!!!!!!!! Here is the video that enlightened me to the pleasant future ahead of us all!!

FRESH STOCK: Free Time Industries - Laser Nature

Free Time Industries, a collaboration of products and concepts led by designer, Kate Bailey. Kate graduated from the Industrial Design program at California College of the Arts. She works full time as a designer for Microsoft Hardware and in her free time, creates products and concepts for Free Time Industries, a creative outlet that allows for the freedom to design a variety of products without being limited to one specific industry. Free Time Industries provides well-designed products at accessible prices.

Laser Nature is built upon the combination of precise, industrial grade, machine laser cutting and hand crafted style drawn from Northwest plants and wildlife. Each piece is assembled via the same process, beginning from a hand illustration. This sketch is then transferred to Birch wood though a 650 watt CO2 laser, resulting in an artifact burned from the surrounding material. The rough piece is then individually finished, while leaving the blackened edges of its conception intact.

The lovely and ever so talented, Katie.

BOWIEMAS IS A COMING TO TOWN

That's right!! This will be the sixth Bowiemas! For those of you who have no clue as to what Bowiemas is, it is a holiday on which we celebrate the holy birth of our lord and savior, Bowie. Every year we throw a big party in his honor where we all get dressed up to the nines and dance our hearts out! This year is very exciting I must say and for a number of reasons. One, that it is the first year where the party will actually be on Mr. Bowie's real birthday, Jan 8th, which is a Friday this year! Another exciting thing is that there will be a burlesque act with all the finest burlesque dancers in this city! Other things that may or may not occur are a Bowie look alike contest, a bowie look alike that one can get their photo taken with (kinda like that whole Santa Claus thing), catered food, a bar and oh so much more!!

At this time I am beginning to get really excited preparing for the party and I thought I would post a blog encouraging all of you to start working on your costumes!!! I believe I'm going to go all out this year and make mine from scratch!

Here are some photos from the past years!

Stay tuned for more info!!
